What You Need to Know About the Wedding Veil

The wedding veil is an important part of the overall look for the wedding day. So we thought we would share some insight about what you need to know about it before you walk down the aisle.

Pick your Wedding Dress First and your Veil Second: Your wedding veil should be a choice you make after your dress. You want your veil to compliment the dress, not the other way around. Make sure it works with your dress perfectly and that you are happy with it. Also know what key focal points in your dress you would like to showoff on your wedding day, make sure your wedding veil doesn't cover those key points, you will want to find a veil that stops before those key focal points.

You Don't Need a Veil at All: If you aren't a traditional bride, you don't need to have a traditional veil. Your wedding day look is about you and what you feel most comfortable in. Pick a headpiece that works best for you and makes you happy. Also, just because your mother had a veil and her mother had a veil doesn't mean you need one too.

Sometimes an elegant hairpiece can work perfectly in place of wedding veil.

Talk to Your Stylist: Make sure you and your hair stylist are on the same page when it comes to your wedding day look. Make sure he or she is aware of the look you are trying to accomplish for your wedding day.

Consider Different Lengths: When shopping for your wedding veil, consider various lengths that will work best with your dress. There are very short veils that act as a visor and don't extend any further than your chin. There are shoulder length veils that are best suited for less formal gowns, you wouldn't want it for a classic wedding dress. There is the elbow length veil, which falls just below the elbow, there is fingertip length that reaches as far as your fingertips. There is knee length veils that go as low as your knees, there are chapel length veils that are slightly shorter than cathedral length, which is the most formal type veil. Find what works best for you.
